Vagabond

The history of this painting is a long and interesting one. I was asked by a gallery to recreate a piece of art from early in my career. I grudgingly agreed. It never sold, and was eventually sent back. I was never satisfied with it. I reworked it numerous times over the years and was never satisfied. At one point, it even had colorful tentacles wrapping around the arms and legs. You didn't know whether the tentacles were good or bad, but they were taking over. That was during a period of time when I was getting really abstract with my waves. I eventually realized the strangling of the surfer represented a change happening in my artwork. At that point, it still wasn't a satisfactory piece of art. Just recently in a pinch to have some new art for a show I reworked it again. This time I'm happy with the results.
